The passing of a loved one is never easy, but it is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Johnnie E. Sammons’ passing. Sammons, a beloved member of the community, passed away on October 20, 2024 at the age of 68.
Sammons was a well-known figure in the community, having lived in Augusta, Georgia for his entire life. He was a proud veteran, having served in the United States Army for over 20 years. After his military service, Sammons worked for the Augusta Fire Department for another 25 years before retiring.
Throughout his life, Sammons touched the lives of many with his kind heart and infectious smile. He was known for his selfless nature and willingness to help anyone in need. Sammons was also an avid sports fan, and could often be found cheering on his favorite teams, the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs.
His passing has left a void in the community, but his legacy of kindness and service will live on. Sammons will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A funeral service will be held on October 25, 2024 at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, followed by a burial at Westover Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Sammons’ memory.
