The Arts in the Heart festival has been a beloved event in Augusta, Georgia for the past 27 years. Thousands of people flock to downtown Augusta every September to enjoy a weekend filled with music, food, and arts from around the world.
But this year, there will be a bittersweet change as the festival’s longtime organizer, Brenda Durant, passes the torch to a new leader.
Durant has been the Executive Director of the Greater Augusta Arts Council since 2007, and has been instrumental in making Arts in the Heart one of the top arts festivals in the Southeast. Under her leadership, the festival has grown to include over 150 artists, 5 stages of entertainment, and 30 international food vendors.
But after 27 years of dedication and hard work, Durant has decided to step down as the festival’s organizer. She will continue to work with the Arts Council, but will now focus on other projects and initiatives.
In a statement, Durant expressed her gratitude for the support and love she has received from the community over the years. She also expressed her confidence in the Arts Council’s ability to continue the festival’s success with a new leader at the helm.
While it may be sad to see Durant leave her role as the festival’s organizer, this change also brings excitement for the future of Arts in the Heart. The Arts Council has already begun the search for a new director, and plans to involve the community in the selection process.
As the festival enters a new chapter, it is clear that the Arts in the Heart will continue to be a beloved event in the Augusta community. And with a new leader, there is no doubt that the festival will continue to grow and thrive, showcasing the diversity and talent of artists from around the world.
So mark your calendars for September 21-23 and join the community in celebrating the 28th annual Arts in the Heart festival. It will be a weekend filled with art, food, and music, and a celebration of the legacy that Brenda Durant has left behind. Read More!
